Form a group of CSI detectives - people you can work with.
Include everyone in your class.
No more than 4 in a group in total.

The time it takes you to do this will count against your final detective grading.


TOP SECRET TRAINING
Build your investigation skills and your ability to identify different substances by testing and classifying a variety of mystery materials.

IMPORTANT: Do not try and guess what these materials are.  Use your skills to classify them.

Strange Properties

Watch this film and list all the properties that you observe about this substance.

Properties include:

  • what it looks like
  • how it acts or behaves
  • how it feels
  • what it can do
  • what did you see happen?

Classification and Testing


  • Organise your work station
  • Name your recording sheet
  • Take it in turns to collect equipment and materials
  • Stay sitting unless you are collecting equipment or materials



  • Take a sample of each substance
  • Use your observation skills to identify the properties of each material
  • Fill out your classification grid
  • Use your findings to complete your first CSI MIssion
